Humanities

The humanities - including the study of languages, cultural forms, literature, history, philosophy, and religion - are the disciplines that study all the forms we use to examine and interpret the human experience and communicate its meaning. 

The office of administration in the Humanities assists the Dean in coordinating the teaching, research, financial operations, human resources, facilities management and information technology needs for all of the departments, programs, and centers in the Division of the Humanities. 

Departments in the Humanities include: American Studies, African, Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Literatures, Art History, Asian Languages and Cultures, Classics, English, French, German, Russian and East European Languages and Literatures, History, Italian, Jewish Studies, Linguistics, Philosophy, Religion, Spanish and Portuguese, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Programs include, Comparative Literature, Cinema Studies, Modern Greek Studies, and Medieval Studies. The Division also includes Centers such as the Center for Cultural Analysis, Institute for Research on Women, Rutgers Center for Historical Analysis, Center for Women’s Global Leadership, Rutgers Advanced Institute for Critical Caribbean Studies, Rutgers British Studies Center, Writers House, and the Rutgers Center for the Philosophy of Religion.
