Important Update from Vivian Fernández
Senior Vice President for Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness
The New Jersey Division of Pensions and Benefits has recently changed their policy on the continuation of health insurance coverage when an employee terminates employment. Effective January 2020, employees who terminate employment, regardless of the effective date of termination, will have medical benefits, including health, prescription drug, and dental insurance, through the end of that month. For example, if an employee terminates employment on February 1, 2020 or February 29, 2020, medical benefit coverage terminates on February 29, 2020.
University Human Resources will send COBRA information to individuals when notified of an employee’s termination. Affected individuals will have 60 days from the date of termination of benefits to enroll in COBRA coverage.
